Eye Of The Vintage Tiger...

One of my latest vintage inspired creations, I fell in love with this brooch as soon  as it arrived in the post yesterday, this is the 'Kat' Necklace priced at £30.00 and available to purchase on my Etsy shop. If you have a wild side and like to make a bit of a statement with your jewellery then this might just tick the boxes. Going to find it hard to part with this one you may even have to take it from around my neck!

'Love Birds' I do...

A short but s(tweet) see what I did there?! post...I don't know what it is just lately but I see a bird brooch/ charm/ pendant and I go weak at the knees, especially when there's two of them together! These love birds sit prettily on their gold chain perch and I just think it's the cutest thing. This particular bracelet 'Ella' is available to purchase online http://www.etsy.com/listing/93940714/ella-bracelet for £20.00. Remember this is a total one-off so get it before it's pecked up!

Oscars 2012- Lady In Red...Oh And Diamonds, And Vintage Polka Dots...

Every year without fail the question on everyone's lips the day after the Oscar awards have taken place is not "who won what?" but rather "who WORE what?" The 84th Academy Awards took place last night and all day I have been droolling/ cringing at times over the outfits, and observing the opinions of the masses via Twitter, in the papers, on T.V and online it's become somewhat of an obsession you might say. One of my favourites has got to be the exquisite Miss. Natalie Portman mainly because she wore a 'Vintage' 1954, (yeh okay she is their ambassador and yes this may have been a little predictable) Dior red polka dot gown, and naturally teamed it with Harry Winston diamonds, i'm sure we all adorn similar jewels of a Saturday night on the town dn't we darlings, no?! Every last inch of her down to the strong 50's red lip colour to the perfectly coiffed hair oozes Grace Kelly and I personally love it.
I have to also mention the phenomenal Meryl Streep who literally can do no wrong in my eyes! Sure she may have matched her outfit to the award but still I think she dazzled on the red carpet as the 'Golden' Iron Lady in Lanvin, I tell you what if I look half as good as her in my 60's I will be content. I won't have a bad word said!

So whilst all this was taking place I was inspired to get busy creating a few new pieces for my collection- afterall a little bit of glamour goes a long way I always say. Just a quick example before I sign off anyway...introducing 'Iman' a necklace of contasting chains with rich jewel detail, if the celebs can get glam then why can't we hey?!
Much 'Lovey' Love,
Shu x

An Inspiration

An Inspiration of mine is Parisian Victoire De Castellane the extravagant Creative Director of Christian Dior Jewellery, and someone who I aspire to greatly. Her designs are made with total passion, they're fun and vibrant and extremely glamourous. She grew up in an Aristocratic family so you can imagine her family didn't receive this new found creative talent too well, especially not when she dismantled a gold charm bracelet given to her by her mother to re-make as earrings, deeming they looked better that way! At age 12 she made her first ring by melting down her religious medals for the precious metal, which I'm sure won't have gone down to well either, but it's what makes me love her even more! I have a feeling however I know the response I shall get if I ask for a piece for my birthday something along the lines of "not in this life time". You can view more of her work on Dior's website - literally stunning stuff!

What's in a name?

As you may or may not have noticed each piece of the jewellery I have created so far has been given it's own individual girls name as a style name. The thinking behind this idea was to use the names of inspirational women in my life- some friends, some family, some whom I've never even met but all who have inspired me just being unique and special to me in their own brilliant ways. I liked the fact that this mirrors the jewellery being individual and unique one-offs too pass the sick bucket you say?!
So the point of this blog is that this week ever expanding and favourite handbag brand of mine- Mulberry presented via London Fashion week in their spectacular show on Sunday, one of their new beautiful bags to be launched in May of this year the 'Del Ray' to anyone reading at Mulberry my address to send me one over is available upon request ;) this story some what spooked me as on Friday evening I created the Necklace pictured in the photo below whilst listening to the New York born Lana Del Ray's exceptional album- 'Born To Die'. Fascinated by the captivating tracks on her album I decided to name the necklace 'Lana' after the woman herself. If you haven't heard it yet, I insist you have a listen.
So looks like my love for Mulberry has gone a little too far this time and caused me to become some what scarily in tune and in sync with the brand! Anyway now you know the story behind it without further ado let me introduce you to 'Lana' - playful, a little bit in your face and a real statement maker, which is what I personally think wearing jewellery should be all about!
£20.00 available on http://www.etsy.com/shop/shuandme or upon request.

Happy Vintage Valentines

I've never been sure what I think of the day if I'm honest, at Primary School I loved it, Secondary School I down right hated it- mainly due to the thought of that dreaded annual event dun, dun, duuuun, - 'The Valentines Disco' where for the first hour the girls all stood on one side of the room and the boys on the other and when they finally did get the confidence to intermingle over a Panda Pop and high on E numbers you never ended up dancing with the boy you fancied anyway, but instead found yourself in an awkward embrace with the slime ball of the year harsh? Yeh okay maybe a little, these days I'm on the fence. I enjoy that 'love is in the air' feeling this time of year clearly getting mushy in my older age, but amidst all the bouquets of flowers I use the term 'all' for the general public not my own personal Valentines experiences, boxes of chocolates and the rest, I think the anonymously delivered card is by far the most exciting of all and let's face it the original reason behind the whole concept.
A card with a carefully thought out message written inside will guarantee an instant heart warming feeling fact, even when you come accross it years down the line. So on that note I will leave you to ponder over what it is you will have to say for yourself this year. Happy Valentines Swooners

p.s not forgetting...nothing says "I Love You" like a sentimental, beautiful, one-off, vintage keepsake this is where I do a shameless plug of my own jewellery hint hint.

Oooh La La

42 days not that i'm counting every single second down till I say Bonjour to the beautiful city of Paris for four delightful days. I have been informed by a very reliable source that Parisian style is "an attitude, a state of mind"- I like the sound of this, this means that I have a chance of maybe, just maybe being able to pull this off for the time that I am there. According to Sophie Gachet, author of best seller 'Parisian Chic' my new bible & if you haven't already got it then I highly recommend you get it in your life there are a few golden rules to follow, however rules aside the main point she makes is that the Parisian woman likes to trangress and this is what I love the most about their effortlessly chic, with a generous sprinkling of good fun style.

...Anyway I digress what I'm getting to in a rather around the houses style is that inspired and excited by my impending travels, I've recently started on a 'Destinations' range and yep you guessed it I started with the obvious couldn't resist, with Sophie Gachet's words imprinted on my mind I've created an Eiffel Tower cliché, yeh maybe special. I hope you like, as there's plenty more like this to come very soon.

Shu Who?

'Shu & Me' is the name of my Vintage inspired jewellery collection that I have only been day dreaming about setting up for as long as I can remember made up of handmade, unique necklaces and bracelets that have been put together using recycled pieces of unwanted, lonely, broken or inherited costume/ antique jewellery that have gone on to be revived to make something beautiful and totally wearable well i think so anyway. Anyway without wanting to go on and on and on the most important thing you need to know is that every item is different, special and exclusive to the person wearing it. Each necklace and bracelet tells a different story, and is made with vintage love, I hope you love too. ♥

oh and finally...you'll soon notice I love a good quote

"strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it." Sir Henry Royce.
